2018 ‘STEW NIGHT’ REPORT
There were approximately twenty people in attendance at the annual ‘Stew Night’, held in the Old Boys’ Association clubrooms and Thomas Street Methodist Church’s ‘Upper Room’ on Friday, October 19, 2018. The evening also remembered the 50th Anniversary of the 1st Portadown BB Old Boys’ Association football team who won Section D of the Belfast Churches League in 1968.
A delicious two course meal of Irish Stew and Apple Tart was served by the Thomas Street Methodist Church catering team.
Following the meal, there were recollections of the football team from Paul Teggart (Secretary) with Steven Wright (Chairman) presenting digitally premastered laminated prints to Leonard Gillis, Keith Jones and John Proctor, three members of the team, as well as to Mrs Kirsty Andrews, representing her father, the late Garfield Logan, another member of the team. Later in the evening, a presentation of an enlarged framed print of the team was made to Mrs Lynne Douglas, who was representing her father, Brian Crozier (team manager in 1968), who was unable to be at the ‘Stew Night’.
Angus Wilson was also in attendance and he received a cheque from the Association for his work with ‘Fields Of Life’.
Following the speeches and presentations, it was time for the snooker competition to begin with the Amos Jeffers Perpetual Trophy up for grabs. The eventual winner was Jeff McCann, who defeated Paul Armstrong 2-1 in a best of three frames final
