Roy Woolsey

It was with great sadness and sorrow that the members of 1st Portadown Company Boys’ Brigade Old Boys’ Association learned of the passing on Monday 17th May 2021 of Mr. Robert George (Roy) Woolsey, a very respected friend, long serving member and Honorary Vice-President of the Association.

Roy’s history with 1st Portadown Company BB and Thomas Street Church goes back a long way. As a boy in the Company he was a member of our 1948-1949 cup winning drill squad, which won the Lurgan and Portadown, Belfast Battalion and Northern Ireland Drill Squad Competitions. In later life, on becoming a member of the BB Old Boys’ Association, Roy took an active part in our activities, attending many of our Annual Services and Annual Reunions. He was a very active helper in the building and establishing of the Company’s Rocky Mountain Expedition Centre in the Mournes. In recognition of his services to the Association Roy was elevated to the position of Vice-President in 2018. In recent times, despite the onset of ill health, he remained closely interested in our in our ministry of work. He will be sorely missed.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his daughters, Wendy and Jacqui, as well as to the other members of his extended family. Roy’s funeral service took place at 12 noon on Friday 21st May 2021 in Thomas Street Methodist Church, followed by burial in Mullavilly Churchyard.
